Runaway (Camryn Cruise #1)
by Brina Courtney

Camryn Cruise is not human. But she doesn’t know what she is. Not yet.

The world is falling apart and her only escape is Camp Silverlake where she frequently stayed as a child. But Camryn’s summers weren’t filled with crafting and swimming, they were spent learning combat skills and how to protect herself from the outside world.

Now she must return to Camp Silverlake to learn the truth, about who she is and she’ll discover the secret hidden within her blood. A secret that could save them all.

Camryn Cruise is a normal seventeen years-old girl. She lives with her parents and goes to school like any other seventeen years-old kid. Until one day everything changes.
She has this strange feeling that she is being watched while she’s with her friend Riley. When she gets home, everything falls apart: her parents tell her that a horrible disease, that has no cure, is spreading fast and they want her to go to Silverlake, the summer camp she used to go. She leaves for Silverlake that same night and takes Riley with her. During the trip, they find evidence that the disease is real and that they need to get to Silverlake fast.

Will they make it? What will they find there? Will they be safe there? Will they get answers for what is going on?

This book is a novella part of a series.

I loved this novella. Since the beginning it was very intense and I couldn’t put it down.

Through the years, Camryn has been prepared to the possibility of the disease’s outbreak without knowing. She is a strong girl that has to make difficult decisions during the trip to Silverlake.
I think that Camryn’s parents were a little negligent because they should have given more information to Camryn about what was going on, what to expect when she arrived at the camp and what she really was.

Brina Courtney did an excellent job with this gripping story. It was the first book I read written by her and I can’t wait to read more of her books, especially Camryn Cruise’s story.

Amazing!!!

Raine by J.C. Valentine is an amazing read. We follow Raine and Jarrett's story.

Raine is a senior in high school when she meets Camron, the school's most popular guy. She was always the perfect daughter, with good grades and good behavior. She's a quiet and shy girl and she never thought that a guy like Camron would ever look her way twice. When they start dating, she thought he was "the one". After one night, everything changes: Camron breaks up with her and after finding that she is pregnant her parents kick her out of their house. When she tells Camron she is pregnant, he doesn't care and his parents try to pay Raine for her to give the baby up for adoption when it is born. Raine doesn't accept Camron's parents' proposal and decides to move on with her life and pregnancy all by herself.

Jarrett is Camron’s older brother. He is treated as the family's black sheep for his life choices. When he first met Raine, Jarrett felt an immediate attraction to her and couldn't stop thinking about her. He didn't know that Raine was Camron’s girlfriend and he's surprised when he finds out. When he sees what his family does to Raine, he tries to help her but she refuses.

Months later, Raine and Jarrett find each other again. The connection is still there and this time when Jarrett tries to help Raine she accepts. Raine moves in with Jarrett and they become friends. But soon, they're feelings for each other start to evolve. However, Jarrett can’t get out of his mind that Raine was with Camron first and he can’t shake off the things Camron said about Raine. He also doesn't understand Raine's aversion towards Camron. What happened between them?

This is a beautiful and emotional story.
This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and J.C. Valentine was able to take us in this ride.
I loved how Raine and Jarrett's relationship blossomed. Although it seemed that they had the whole world against them, they fought for what they believe and for their love.
The epilogue was perfect!
Amazing writing!

The characters are amazing and relatable.
Raine went through a lot: her jerk boyfriend uses her and she ends up pregnant at eighteen, her parents kick her out because she's pregnant, the father of her unborn child and his family don’t want her to keep the baby and she has to go through her pregnancy alone and broke. In the beginning of the book she was a very naïve girl, but Raine grew a lot and became a very strong and fierce young woman. She is a survivor.
Jarrett is considered the black sheep of the family, although he always tried to make is parents proud when he was younger. He has a very kind heart and can't take what his parents and brother do to Raine. His heart and his mind are battling each other: he falls in love for Raine but she was his brother’s girlfriend and she's having his child.
Jarrett's parents and his brother are total jerks. Every time they made an appearance I wanted to strangle them!
Raine's parents were very harsh on her. When Raine went back home, it seemed that they were accepting that Raine was having a child and they were going to be grandparents, but, like Jarrett’s parents, they didn't want Raine to keep the baby.

This was a fantastic read. It has very sweet moments and in the end it makes you smile!
