Heather C. Leigh

Release Date: June 7, 2015

✾ Synopsis ✾

Dax Davies has one job to fulfill in the Davies household. Earn money at the family business. The problem is that the family business was illegal underground fighting.

From a young age, Dax and his brothers are groomed to become money earners in their father's club. Broken bones and bruises are commonplace. Their father pits the brothers against each other to 'toughen them up' for the ring, using his rules to bend his sons to his will. His future is in the cage, not on stage where he dreams of making music.

Kate Campbell loves one thing in life. Well, two. Soccer and Dax Davies. Growing up in the poorest part of London, soccer is her personal escape from reality and from the fact that Dax doesn't seem to know she exists. She figures if she can be good enough at soccer, maybe she can get away from Hackney, and leave the poverty behind.

Kate doesn't plan on ever getting to know Dax as more than a passing acquaintance. In fact, she isn't meant to go with her friend to Dax's father's business, but that one night changes everything.

***This is book 2 in the Sphere of Irony Series. It can be read as a standalone. This is a spin-off of the Famous Series***

✿ Excerpt ✿

Dax notices Kate
Dax's POV.

I follow Adam's gaze to see Ellie hurrying towards us, towing a friend by the hand. Ellie immediately latches on to Adam, prattling on about something or other. Tuning out the happy couple, I take a moment to check out Ellie's friend, Kate. I've seen her around, mostly with Ellie, but she's in my maths class as well. In fact, now that I think about it, we've been in school together a long time.

The fact that I didn't remember her until now makes me frown, which in turn, makes Kate's eyes go wide with fear. The girl is fiddling with her hair, pulling it up into a ponytail. She's clearly uncomfortable around me, so, being the heartless prick that I am, I decide to make it worse.

"You're Kate."

When impossibly green eyes shoot up to meet mine, big and innocent looking, all of the smartass comments I have at the ready fall away. Smooth, lightly freckled skin flushes pink and full lips part, making my cock sit up and take notice. It's then I realize I've never really looked at Kate before.

How did I not see how gorgeous this girl is? She's not obvious or flashy — no, she's very... girl next door. Sporty and fit with tawny brown hair always pulled up on her head, showing off two very high cheekbones. I'm surprised how affected I am by her. My heart has begun thumping hard and my palms are sweaty. How angry would Adam be if I shagged Ellie's best friend?

Probably very. Not that I care much what he thinks.

While I'm thinking of how she looks naked, she gathers herself together and answers my question. "Yes. I'm Kate." Shit, even her voice affects me — soft and slightly scratchy in a sexy kind of way. Now my dick is throbbing, pressing uncomfortably against my zipper. I need to hear that voice again.

"I'm Dax. You're in my maths class."

Those emerald eyes get even wider and her jaw hangs open. "How do you know who I am?"

Huh?

"Why wouldn't I know who you are? Haven't we been in the same year for ages?" I furrow my brow, trying to decide if I'm thinking of a different girl. But no, it's her, I'm sure of it.

"Y-y-yes. Since third year."

I hold back a smile, keeping my cool exterior. At least I got that right. "Well then, apparently I'm not as stupid as some might say."

Kate's fingers untwist from her hair, settling on her hips. Lush, ruby lips turn down in the corners and her eyes narrow. She looks downright offended. "Who says you're stupid? You're in my advanced maths class, so I know that can't be true."

For once in my life I'm speechless. No one ever gives me the benefit of the doubt or defends my intelligence. Do I bother explaining to her that most people associate a big, muscled guy with an empty skull? Add in the underground fighting and they assume I've taken enough hits to the head to be rendered daft and dumb.

No one talks about it, but the teachers here know what I do — what my dad's business is. I am the fourth Davies son at this school after all and they treat me accordingly. They don't even bat an eye at the bruises anymore.

I tilt my chin to look down at her. Kate's not at my eye level, but for a girl, she's fairly tall — maybe five foot seven or eight? In those eyes, eyes as green as the stripes on the Davies family tartan, I see something I haven't seen on a girl's face in... well, ever. Admiration? Respect, maybe? Is it possible Kate respects me? That she sees past my intimidating exterior to the man beneath the brawn? That she sees more than just a conquest to brag to her friends about?

One of dad's rules pops into my head.

Rule 2 — Never let your emotions show.

I lock down the surprise on my face, keeping it to its usual icy façade.

What if she doesn't like what she finds? I don't know why I care, but suddenly, I don't want Kate to know about the fighting, the girls, my family... those goddamn rules. For the first time in my life I'm not proud of my wins, of all the girls I've shagged or had suck me off at the club or behind the school. For once, I'm truly ashamed of what I am

♡ Excerpt Reveal ♡ Amber To Ashes (Torn Hearts #1) by Gail McHugh @RSofRomance

"What are you, Casey?" Ryder asks over his shoulder as he scrubs his hands with antibacterial soap.

"Your little cancer warrior," she answers with a small smile.

"That's right." He dries his hands and turns, a proud grin cracking his mouth. "The bravest one ever."

I grab Casey's hand and hold it tight, knowing nothing I've ever seen, heard, or felt compares to what she's facing. This child's living with a fear I can't comprehend. One that'd slay all of my fears put together.

"Ready?" Ryder asks, his tone soft and caring, everything it should be.

Casey nods, clenching my hand. My heart swells, anxiety building thick in my throat as Ryder slips on a pair of medical gloves and cleans the area around her port with Betadine swabs.

Casey looks at me, the cool blue of her eyes misting over. "Are you scared of needles?"

"No," I say, running my free hand along the back of her neck. "Are you?"

"I used to be." She sighs, a single tear slipping down her face. "But not so much anymore."

It takes everything in me not to drag her little body off the table and run out of the apartment with her. I wipe the tear from her cheek, my need to hide her away, sheltering her from the sinister storm she’s in the middle of, growing with each unsteady breath.

"A little cold," Ryder warns before spraying the anesthetic on her skin.

"Hurry, Ry," Casey pleads, her voice weak yet panicked. "It doesn't last that long."

"I have to make sure you're numb, Case." Ryder ducks his head and stares into her eyes, trying to keep her focused on the silly faces he's making.

His tactic works.

Casey's tiny giggles bounce around the kitchen, their musical notes blocking out the sound of Ryder popping the cap off a weird-looking needle. With a small, clear tube like a tail — and plastic wings stretched out on either side — it reminds me of a dragonfly. Ryder presses his gloved finger against Casey's port a few times, his attention honed in on her face as he says, "Knock, knock."

"Who's there?" Casey smiles at me, completely unaware that Ryder's pricked her skin with the needle.

"Aardvark." Ryder pushes the medicine through the syringe, his attention cutting between Casey's face and the needle.

"Aardvark who?" she manages, a thin sheen of sweat dotting her upper lip.

"Aardvark a hundred miles for one of your pretty smiles." Ryder pulls the needle from her chest, and before she can blink, he rests his lips against her forehead, kissing away her remaining fear.

Close to immobile, my heart tugs, the magnitude of what this man means to this little girl — what they mean to each other — scraping tears up my dry throat. I swallow the sound before it can leave me, warmth pinching my stomach into a beautiful knot as I observe them.

"It's over?" Casey asks, uncertainty flashing in her eyes.

"Yeah, kiddo. It's over," Ryder answers, his voice heavy with relief as he applies a small piece of gauze over her port. "You're all set, warrior. Go get cleaned up, and we'll get ready to leave."

With Ryder's aid, Casey slides off the table and heads for the bathroom, the bounce in her step less tangible as she slips around the corner. Quiet reigns, the events from the last few minutes whispering across my mind as Ryder looks at me with exhausted eyes. Stress lines cut across his forehead, wariness drowning his beautiful features. Overcome, I watch him swipe a tired hand over his face and turn, resting his palms against the counter. As though having no control over my body — a magnet pulling in my gut — I stand and move toward him, each tentative step I take carried out with shallow, quick breaths. I come up behind him, lift a shaky hand and tap his shoulder, my pulse lurching as he turns and meets my gaze. Our connection strikes, a bolt of emotions paralyzing us as we stare at each other.

I touch my fingers to his stubbled cheek, my conscience crying out that my actions are wrong, so very wrong, but my heart mutes the warning as I move my palm to the back of his neck.

His muscles go taut, restraint lighting the fiery blue of his eyes. "Amber, don't." The words come out not as a rough warning but a soft plea. "Don't do this."

"I have to," I whisper, trembling. "You're... amazing, Ryder. What you did for her, everything you do for her... I just..." I drop my eyes to his chest, my heart galloping as I register his hands gripping my waist. Their heat sears through me, a thrill jumping from cell to cell. "You're tender, cocky, gentle, and an asshole all at the same time. You're kind, giving, nurturing. You're... everything."

My lips find his, testing, teasing, barely touching. Our breathing comes faster, harder as I pull him down, our foreheads pressed together as we stare into each other's eyes. "Please... I just... Just once more. That's all I need."

I think... hope.

With hunger demolishing all traces of restraint from his gaze, Ryder buries his hands in my wavy curls and looks at me a beat before capturing my lips in a slow, passionate kiss. I sigh into his mouth, my senses drowning in his familiar flavor as I fall in step with his calculated strokes. On a deep groan, he draws me closer, his tongue dipping in and out, out and in. Still, nothing about his touch is rough, yet everything in it screams that he needs me in this moment.

In this wicked space and time of his life.

Every lick and nip is a soft caress, like he's trying to burn the sensation of my lips into his memory. My pulse hammers in staccato mode as I melt the full weight of my body into his. With my blood swimming through my veins, and sinking further into everything that is Ryder, I feel the emptiness of his soul slice through me. A dull ache pinches my heart, spreading its misery through my muscles as he cups my cheeks and deepens the kiss with a gentleness I never knew he possessed. My breath catches, wiped from my lungs as he glides his lips along my jaw, down the base of my throat. The cadence of his exotic growl slips through my ears, dizzying my head in the sweetest way.

"Christ, I fucking want you so bad," Ryder whispers hoarsely. He drags his lips back to mine, his kiss urgent, greedy. However, he brings it down a notch, his movements revisiting slow, sensual, worshipping this moment for everything it is. Worshipping me for all I am. "So badly, peach. More than I've ever wanted anything or anyone. You drive me crazy. Your smell, skin, eyes." He sucks my lip between his teeth, a groan punching from his chest as he runs his fingertips along my bare arms.

Goose bumps pop, deliciously pricking my skin as I tighten my grip in his hair.

"Your little giggles, pouts, personality. Every single fucked-up scar you own in and out. All of it. All of you." He licks into my mouth, his tongue exploring mine with precision as his hands find my nape, their hold possessive. "Fuck. It should've been me. Not him. Me."

And just like that, our moral compasses spring due north, Brock the center of its attention — our attention. We slowly break the kiss, our breathing choppy from the loss.

✾ Synopsis ✾

From the New York Times bestselling author of Collide and Pulse comes a gritty new novel about a shattered young woman who unexpectedly falls for two best friends.

They were a storm I never saw coming, an unforeseen heartbreak on the edge of a dangerous cliff.

Amber Moretti's life changes in the span of minutes. An orphaned outsider, she is desperate to start fresh the moment she walks onto campus. In the time it takes to cross the university’s dining hall, she meets two men who bring color, air, and light to her darkened world.

They became my addiction, each a needle to my next hit, my high.

Brock Cunningham's appeal is dizzying, a potent force Amber can't deny. A green-eyed smooth talker, he instantly attracts Amber. It doesn't take long for him to consume her every thought, her every breath.

Ryder Ashcroft, a blue-eyed, tattooed, and pierced bad boy, turns Amber off immediately — that is, until he kisses her, stealing a piece of her heart, her soul.

They were as opposite as fire and ice, yet I ached for them equally.

Never knowing she could be broken down in so many unexpectedly beautiful yet petrifying ways, Amber finds herself falling for both men.

Immoral? Maybe. I say undeniable. Uncontained.

But one devastating event changes everything, shattering each of their lives... and Amber isn't sure she can recover from it.

✿ Excerpt ✿

"Hey what about Angie Morelli?" Troy rubbed his hand through his mohawk, the mess of crap he called hair.

Angie Morelli.

Yep, just saying her name was enough to send a chill up my spine. It had been ten years, and still not long enough. Her long, black hair and dark-brown eyes, something that had taken a while to wipe from my mind. That body. Yeah, I still remembered every curve. So freaking sweet, too. Unfortunately it wasn't only her attributes that I remembered, one of my biggest asshole moments was also front and center getting the trip down memory lane. So you would have to understand why I didn't immediately start doing backflips and welcoming her. The idea was to avoid the drama, not to give it top freaking billing.

"Dude, no. No fucking way," Dan chimed in, his words echoing exactly what was rattling around in my head.

Thank you, douchebag. An Angie reunion was bad news. There had to be someone else. Hey, was Charlie Manson out of prison yet? I mean if we were thinking up bad ideas to take on tour, we might as well put them all on the table.

"She's still playing?" James tipped his head toward Troy, taking way more interest in the topic than I would have liked. The itch to shut the conversation down danced with the need to keep my mouth shut. Delicate act. Wasn't sure which one was going to win. Honestly, it was going to be trouble either way.

"Sure is. Lexi is trying to sign her band, Black Addiction; saw them last week at a club in Brooklyn. She said they packed the house." Troy threw some more weight behind the cause. The conversation continued around me, even as the mother of all headaches took up residence in my frontal lobe.

"I saw her stuff on You Tube, they're tight." Alex nodded, the bastard not having any idea on what he was signing us up for, and I wasn't going to be neon-signing it for him either.

"C'mon! Angie?" Dan rolled his eyes, throwing his hands up in disgust. "Troy, did you snort some of Wade's nose candy before he left? She doesn't have the chops for a stadium. Besides, she hates us."

Had to admit, this was one time where I was happy for Dan to be running his mouth. Giving him a round of applause would have been too conspicuous, so I kept it on the down low, but I was a hundred percent behind his stance. The fact it wasn't me who was leading the anti-Angie movement was a fucking bonus.

"No, she hates you." Troy smirked. The Dan v Angie battles common knowledge.

"No, she fucking hates Jase, too."

The motherfucker had to go there. He couldn't have left it with his own reasons for not wanting her around. He had to go ahead and drag me into it.

"Hate is a pretty strong word, let's go with a strong dislike." I eased back into the chair knowing well enough that it wasn't going to be the last on the topic I was going to have to volunteer. Fucking Dan.

"Dan I understand, but why you, Jase?" Troy's raised eyebrow proving he had no idea what had happened between me and his sexy, barely legal neighbor before we'd hit the big time.

At least Dan had managed to keep a lid on it for longer than I'd ever imagined; I'd always had my suspicions that he'd spilled one time or another, but seems to be those concerns were unfounded. Who knew he had it in him. In the end, the violence was still happening. I'd just make sure I didn't punch him above the neck, keep the SOB pretty for the fans.

"Long story." Well at least it wasn't a total lie. "Let's just say I'm not her favorite person and move on, shall we." The less I said about the subject the better. Besides, it was fucking years ago. Why the hell were we dredging it all up now?

"I heard she has a voodoo doll of you." Dan stretched out his arms, anchoring them behind his head, his grin splitting off the side of his face. "Tell me, asswipe, do you feel any stabbing pain in your cock?"

✿ The Author ✿

T. Gephart is an indie author from Melbourne, Australia.

T.'s approach to life has been somewhat unconventional. Rather than going to University, she jumped on a plane to Los Angeles, USA in search of adventure. While this first trip left her somewhat underwhelmed and largely depleted of funds it fueled her appetite for travel and life experience.

With a rather eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history, T. struggled to find her niche in the world.

While on a subsequent trip the United States in 1999, T. met and married her husband. Their whirlwind courtship and interesting impromptu convenience store wedding set the tone for their life together, which is anything but ordinary. They have lived in Louisiana, Guam and Australia and have traveled extensively throughout the US. T. has two beautiful young children and one four legged child, Woodley, the wonder dog.

An avid reader, T. became increasingly frustrated by the lack of strong female characters in the books she was reading. She wanted to read about a woman she could identify with, someone strong, independent and confident and who didn't lack femininity. Out of this need, she decided to pen her first book, A Twist of Fate. T. set herself the challenge to write something that was interesting, compelling and yet easy enough to read that was still enjoyable. Pulling from her own past "colorful" experiences and the amazing personalities she has surrounded herself with, she had no shortage of inspiration. With a strong slant on erotic fiction, her core characters are empowered women who don't have to sacrifice their femininity. She enjoyed the process so much that when it was over she couldn't let it go.

T. loves to travel, laugh and surround herself with colorful characters. This inevitably spills into her writing and makes for an interesting journey - she is well and truly enjoying the ride!

Based on her life experiences, T. has plenty of material for her books and has a wealth of ideas to keep you all enthralled.

Kat

"Where do you want to sit, Kat?" Beth asks, and I scan the library for an open table closest to one of the exits. The girls are more than aware of my little quirks since the fire, so they usually allow me to choose our spot when out together. We've been spending a lot of time all together, so it's something I've been very open about. I'm so lucky to have met them, because they have all been more than understanding about everything, including my dad adding the extra safety gear around the house.

Once we're settled at the long study table, Radha, Beth, Jenn, Laurie, and I pop open our laptops with the intention of finishing up our research notes that we need for our essays.

"God, this inquiry stuff is killing me. I feel like we've been working on it forever. Have you had any luck finding good journal artic—" Jenn interrupts her own words and I look to where she's staring. "Holy cheese monkeys! Look at that fucking guy over by the reserve desk; holy rainbows, he's pretty." She all but drools. I see who she's talking about and immediately my heart begins to pick up its pace.

Really? Really? Does he need to be everywhere I am?

"Oh, shit, guys, look down, and just keep looking down. Please, do not draw attention to us."

"Kat, are you batshit loopy or what? 'Don't draw attention?' Hell, girl, I wanna rip my fucking clothes off and ask him to go bag me in the stacks over there, 'cause hot damn, woman, that man is fine, and I would like to fuck — a lot," Radha shares while she's fanning herself, sinking further and further into her chair.

"First of all, you need to stop hanging around Claire, Radha. You just freaked me the hell out with that Claire-ism. Next thing I know, you'll be calling me Jedi or grasshopper." I try to stifle my laugh because it was really quite funny. "Second, that over there is none other than Ryker Eddison. The torturer of all things Kat Rollins. So, yeah, keep it the fuck down, ladies. I do not need him to see me." I sigh in defeat as the fuckers do exactly what I just asked them not to.

"OH, MY GOD, KAT!" Beth shouts.

"No way! He is sooo fucking hot," Beth and Laurie practically yell in unison. Perfect. Draw attention to us, to me.

"Guys, this is a library. Please shut up! I said I do not want him to see me," I plead a bit louder.

"Holy snickerdoodles, Kat. Claire is right; you need to tap that!" Laurie is now looking right at him.

"Please, Laur, keep your voice down. Stop gawking," I mutter, my eyes still looking downcast at the keys of my laptop.

"Ohh shit, Kat, he's on the move. He's looking this way. Jesus, he really is fine with a capital F for fuck me," laughs Beth.

I want to throat-punch her. Please don't see me. Please don't see me. Unwillingly, my brain is an asshole and shuts down as I seek Ryker out. I can't help it. It's like I just need to see him. Lifting my head, I gasp in an immediate breath as Ryker Eddison is staring at me. He's like ten feet in front of our table, and he's just standing there, like the beautiful Adonis he is. Finally, as my eyes make their way from his shoes back up to his eyes, I suddenly feel the urge to smoke, because for the first time in my life, I, Kat Rollins, Miss Uptight, just eye-fucked a man. Not only in public, but with my friends sitting beside me giggling at my blatant display of appreciation. As our eyes meet, his go wide before he nods and gives me the biggest shit-eating grin known to man. All before he mouths, I see you too, baby, without anyone seeing him and saunters out the library doors, leaving me speechless.

"Well, that was just all kinds of hot. Jesus, Kat. That was the sexiest eye-fuck I have ever seen. Tell us again how you don't wanna tap that," Laurie basically calls me out.

After telling them all about my recent Ryker experiences, we finally manage to get a bit of work done. Well, they do.
