✿ Excerpt ✿

I run, as fast as I can. I'm not athletic. I don't play sports. I know he's going to catch me. That's what I want, right? For him to catch me?

My legs feel like jelly. I feel his hand graze my arms once, twice, then I'm caught. I should have started running sooner, faster. It doesn't matter. He would have caught me regardless.

"You shouldn't have let me catch you, Gracie." He pulls me back into his chest, lifting my feet off the ground, as the meaning behind his words begins to register.

"Who says I let you?" I know challenging him isn't a good idea, but I haven't learned how to filter my thoughts around him.

"I do. I know you can run faster than that. I think you wanted me to catch you."

"Really?" I say, struggling to break from his hold. It's no use. He's much stronger than me and since he's holding me off the ground, I can't use my legs for leverage.

"Yes, really. I think you knew what would happen when I caught you."

"And what is that?" I begin to struggle again and this time he lets me break free, but I don't get far. Two steps, maybe, before he's got a hold of my wrist and is pulling me back to him. This time we are chest to chest. I crash into the front of him and can't hide the way my body reacts. I'm sure he can see it, feel it. My breathing is ragged and it's not from running.

"Look at me, Gracie," he commands and I do as he says. Not because I want to but because my body wants to.

"Why do you insist on calling me that? It's not my name, you know?" I love it, though. I would never tell him that, or anyone else.

"Because. You're my angel fallen from grace. It suits you. You're beautiful and you know it. What I don't understand is why you want me?"

"Who says I want you?"

How the hell did he figure it out? No one knows.

"Your body says a lot of things. It's telling me right now how much you want me. The question is – what exactly do you want from me because there are a few things that I can offer you." He wraps his arms around me a little tighter as I contemplate how I want to answer him.

The Body Institute
by
Carol Riggs

Release Date: September 1st 2015

Published by: Entangled Teen

✾ Synopsis ✾

Meet Morgan Dey, one of the top teen Reducers at The Body Institute.

Thanks to cutting-edge technology, Morgan can temporarily take over another girl's body, get her in shape, and then return to her own body — leaving her client slimmer, more toned, and feeling great. Only there are a few catches...

For one, Morgan won't remember what happens in her "Loaner" body. Once she's done, she won't recall walks with her new friend Matt, conversations with the super-cute Reducer she's been text-flirting with, or the uneasy feeling she has that the director of The Body Institute is hiding something. Still, it's all worth it in the name of science. Until the glitches start...

Suddenly, residual memories from her Loaner are cropping up in Morgan's mind. She's feeling less like herself and more like someone else. And when protests from an anti–Body Institute organization threaten her safety, she'll have to decide if being a Reducer is worth the cost of her body and soul...

✿ Guest Post ✿

Fun Facts About Writing THE BODY INSTITUTE

1. BOYFRIEND NO MORE. The main character, Morgan Dey, used to have a boyfriend named Aaron in the beginning of the novel — until 8 months before the book was published. He got slashed by Carol's Entangled Teen editor. In the original version, Morgan broke up with him by walloping him in virtual paintball.

2. BEST FRIEND TWEAK. Morgan's best friend, Blair McClure, was called Bunny in the first drafts. Blair sounds more serious and fits her better, now that she's Morgan's science-minded friend.

3. TITLE CHANGE. The previous title of THE BODY INSTITUTE used to be SHAPERS. This was changed by Strange Chemistry when the book was under contract with them, before they went out of business and Entangled Teen picked up the book. ET liked the new title and kept it.

4. EVEN EARLIER TITLES. Back in 1990 when the novel was just an idea, the working title was FARRADAY'S FAT FARM. In 2010 when Carol started the actual writing, this morphed into EMRT. (Electromagnetic Resonance Transfer — the process of downloading one person's brainmap into another person's body.) An editor at an SCBWI conference wisely suggested that Carol change this to SHAPERS. (Now the body-swapping process is more simply called ERT, which is more reader-friendly.)

5. INSTITUTE WORKERS. When the book was called SHAPERS, the weight loss was performed by workers called Shapers, instead of being called Reducers as they are now.

6. AVATARS NO MORE. In early versions, Morgan had a holographic princess warrior avatar that popped up on her phone; she used this instead of the texts and voice-to-text that appear in the final version of the book. Bunny communicated using a (duh) bunny avatar, and Krista used a slinky clown. Morgan's ex-boyfriend Aaron was a troll.

Running Away
Just Say Yes #4
by
Jen Andrews‏

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: August 26, 2015

Nearing age thirty, Jeremy James is cruising along in life, doing as he pleases. No girlfriend, no wife, no drama. Women go as easily as they come, but inside, he feels something's missing. After the birth of his niece, Hannah, and a not so gentle nudge from his sister, Zoey, Jeremy decides to make a change in his life and settle down.

Then he meets Teagan Donnelly.
And she wants nothing to do with him.

Teagan has recently come out of a three year relationship with a man who cheated, shamed her, and berated her for her weight and life choices. The once secure yet spirited woman cannot figure out what Jeremy wants with her.

For Jeremy, it's plain and simple. He wants Teagan to stop running away and give him a chance. But for Teagan, taking a chance with Jeremy means she could lose herself all over again.

"I loved this book, it was my favorite of the series. In the previous books Andy captivated my heart from the beginning but Jeremy definitely stole it. Jen Andrews again made me love the characters since the beginning." ~ Eunices Book Corner

"5 stars! This was such a beautifully written book!! I really enjoyed reading this series and this book as well! Great character development and the story flowed so well." ~ Alpha Book Club

Now, I was taking her wishes seriously and moving on, quitting my "path of self-destruction" as Teagan had called it. Well, if I was on a path of self-destruction, Teagan was the fucking tour guide. Yes, I was angry with her, but I'd finally accepted that we were over.

I was tired of being miserable. Tired of not sleeping, and tired of being in my house alone. As soon as I'd gotten home from the funeral, I'd packed all of my clothes and personal shit I used every day, and had gone to stay at the apartment above the shop.

Since the apartment was fully furnished I hadn't needed to bring anything from my house. All the furniture and everything else could stay there for all I cared. Which, in turn, made me feel extremely guilty after all the work my sister put in to making my home perfect.

With the apartment being quiet and containing nothing familiar to me, I'd finally started to relax for the first time in months. The place held no reminders of Teagan, no reminders of Cammie, and no reminders of the house that I loved so much but which I knew I wouldn't be going back to.

I had tried to live a normal life. I had tried to make a home. I had tried falling in love and making a life with someone.

I had fucking failed.

Miserably.

"Lie still," he said, backing away from me.

Not a problem, I didn't think I could move even if I wanted to. Which was good, because I didn't want to. I was going to let him do whatever he wanted to me because I had no doubt I'd enjoy every second of it.

My eyes fluttered open to view the dark sapphire blue of the California night sky. Stars twinkled as the moon made its way across the horizon.

A cold, wet trail from the fruit in Jeremy's very skillful fingers, slowly made its way up my thigh, followed immediately by his hot tongue warming my skin as he licked off the juice. Just when I thought he was going to make contact with my center, he veered to the right, and up over my hip.

I whimpered at his blatant neglect, and my hands instinctively seized his head. I gripped his hair tightly, wanting to direct him to where I craved him most.

Jeremy let out a low chuckle. "All in good time, pretty girl," he whispered.

He placed another piece of peach on my stomach then sucked the chunk of fruit into his mouth. Another piece appeared in his hand from somewhere — this time half a peach. He squeezed the fruit, dripping the cold juice over my stomach. The liquid warmed quickly as my skin was ablaze from Jeremy's delicious torture.

"Jeremy, please," I crooned.

His mouth made contact with my hot skin, his tongue licking away the peach juice. He kissed and nibbled his way down my stomach, then pulled away from me. My body ached with the need for him to touch me again.
