*** Top 10 ***

★ Millenia Black's Top 10 Book Villains! ★

Right off the bat, I must give a dishonorable mention to Nurse Ratched in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST by Ken Kesey. Needless to say that woman had absolutely no business being a nurse. At. all.

#10. The Wicked Witch of the West (THE WIZARD OF OZ by L. Frank Baum)

It's bad enough that she was out for revenge against poor little Dorothy — whose house only happened to land on her sister — but to go after Toto as well? "I'll get you, my pretty — and your little dog, too!" Now that's just 60 shades of wicked!

#9. Jadis, The White Witch (THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE by C.S. Lewis)

Killing Christmas? Using magic to terrorize the innocent? Turning your enemies into stone? Yeah, I'd say the White Witch is definitely one of the most cruel and heartless bad girls of all time!

#8. Annie Wilkes (MISERY by Stephen King)

Who could ever forget this (lovingly?) violent and obsessively deranged super fan?? She's every writer's worst nightmare!

#7. Constantin Demiris (MEMORIES OF MIDNIGHT by Sidney Sheldon)

Here's an unforgettable Greek shipping tycoon who stopped at nothing in passionate and deadly vengeance against Noelle Page and Larry Douglas! Even though they may have deserved it. Sort of.

Deliciously jealous, spiteful and vindictive, Constantin Demiris is one of the most sinister characters Sidney Sheldon ever wrote!

#6. Simon Legree (UNCLE TOM'S CABIN by Harriet Beacher Stowe)

A mean and nasty slave owner who was cruel and inhumane at best. Absolutely no need to go on.

#5. Hannibal Lecter (RED DRAGON by Thomas Harris)

An unimaginable sociopath of the highest order! Hannibal Lecter is the complete embodiment of a cunning and sadistic serial killer. Run. Run now!

#4. Norman Bates (PSYCHO by Robert Bloch)

Formaldehyde, anyone? Norman Bates is truly the most psycho of this entire list! A serial killer who murdered his own mother, kept the body (eww!), dressed up like her and spoke in her voice — all without knowing he was even doing it! Yikes.

#3. Nils Bjurman (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO by Stieg Larsson)

What an especially despicable and corrupt human being Nils Bjurman is! Talk about abuse of power. Bjurman works for the Swedish government and forces the wards he's assigned to be legal guardian of to perform sexual acts on him before they can have access to their own money! Yuck. But fear not: Bjurman meets the right ward in Lisbeth Salander...

#2. Iago (OTHELLO by William Shakespeare)

In a word? Iago's sly, so very sly. He's the one you won't see coming at all — Othello sure didn't. Iago's so full of hate that he tricked Othello into believing his wife was cheating on him, then proceeded to manipulate and scheme ad nauseam until Othello finally killed his own wife! Tsk, tsk, tsk.

#1. Baron Danglars (THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO by Alexandre Dumas)

With sheer duplicitousness and cunning, Danglars has the honor of landing in the #1 spot on my list!

As the mastermind behind an unprecedented revenge saga, Danglars orchestrated the false accusations and lies that falsely imprisoned an innocent young man and robbed him of fourteen years of his life! Through the character of Baron Danglars, we not only learn the true depths of evil, but the heights of redemption — and we also get to experience the true meaning of life!
