Ritter University Novel – Book Two

Egged house, keyed cars, and lawsuits all behind her, Karina Wolfe needs to bury her past deep beneath the skeletons in her closet. No one can ever find out what she did. No one.

Her freshman year at Ritter University is the perfect opportunity to re-invent a better, shinier, more responsible Karina. Her goal? Keep her head down and stay away from the thing that screwed up her life in the first place — guys. It shouldn't be that hard, in theory. If only Ryan Kent wasn't so darn gorgeous.

Ryan Kent is the poster child for responsibility. He's always done what's expected of him. He didn't have much choice. But now that his mother's cancer is under control, he finally feels free. Almost. If he could only convince his dad to trust him to make his own choices, life would be good. If he could get Karina to take a chance on him, life would be perfect.

Ryan doesn't know what Karina did before they met. Karina doesn't know how to protect Ryan. When taking chances collide with trust, can what happens in college endure, or will it stay in college?

✿ Excerpt ✿

"How was your parent's trip? Didn't they go to Mexico or something?"

"Yep, Mom and Stan just got back. They loved it."

"Nice. What about your real dad? You don't mention him much."

"There's not much to mention." Karina picked up her drink. She didn't want to talk about her relationship with her dad. It always led to questions about how things had gotten so bad. She didn't want anyone at Ritter to know the whole story. Eventually someone would probably figure it out, but for now, she loved her life of anonymity.

Anonymity kept the glares away, kept the disgust away. No one would ever understand. Hell, her own father didn't understand. Her old friends didn't understand. They blamed her for Craig's expulsion. They didn't even care that she was expelled, as well. Her life had been a minefield of exploding relationships, where the only ones left on her side were her mom, Stan, and her brother Mike. Even her sister Kathy treated her differently after the shrapnel settled.

"My father and I don't get along. We had a falling out last year and things never went back to the way they were. How about you? You mention your mom and sisters, but you rarely mention your father."

"Yeah." He twirled his can of soda, a frown settling on his silent lips. Apparently she wasn't they only one hesitant to share daddy-issues. "It's a long story."

"I've got time." She laid her hand on his. The heat and strength of his fingers conflicted with the vulnerability in his eyes. He looked up at her. The intensity of his stare. The raw pain. She wanted to reach out and wrap her arms around him. She wanted to ease some of the pain, the slumping shoulders, the empty stare. Unfortunately, her boyfriend probably wouldn't appreciate her comforting another man. Especially one that looked as good as Ryan.

Really? Looked as good as Ryan? — Ugh. Sometimes she was shocked at the stuff that flew through her head. Thank God mind-reading vampires weren't real. Yes, because the mind reading was the scary part of the bloodsucking vampire story...

She pulled her hand from his and grabbed her drink. Another gift from God, vessels of caffeine gave naughty hands something to do beside hold a strong, capable hand. She'd watch those hands play, work and comfort. She could just imagine what other things those hands could do. Too bad her soda didn't keep her mind busy, because she couldn't stop the pictures of Ryan and those naughty hands.

What was wrong with her? When did Ryan become fodder for her imagination? Channing Tatum. Now there was a man for the imagination. After all, he hadn't announced that she was not his type.
