Before He Was A Secret
Starstruck #3
(can be read as a stand-alone)
Becky Wicks

Release Date: February 24th 2014

Genres: New Adult, Romance

*** Synopsis ***

Another standalone Starstruck romance from the HarperCollins author who brought you Amazon #1 bestseller Before He Was Famous and Before He Was Gone.

"What if we can't choose
Every battle we win and lose
What if we decided years before, to live this life, to fight these wars
And all the dreams we ever thought were ours
Were written in the stars"

Waiting tables isn't exactly what singer/songwriter Stephanie has in mind for her move to Nashville, but memories of the past and a case of writer's block mean inspiration isn't coming easy. When brooding pianist Conor Judge opens his mouth in a smoky bar he proves music can heal, and even help you re-write your story, but a history of his own means the one thing he starts to want most is always just out of reach. Stephanie.

Enter Travis Flynn – an upcoming star who won't take no for an answer, and a record label intent on helping Stephanie shine, without Conor. As fame comes knocking as hard as the ghosts of their pasts, it soon becomes clear that no matter how hard you might fall in love, having the perfect songs doesn't always mean perfect harmony.

*** Interview ***

1. What inspired you to write Before He Was a Secret?

Hey Vera! Thanks so much for having me on the blog! Right, well, I have to say Nashville inspired me, and all the awesome things I kept hearing about how it's so up and coming right now. I think it's the fast-growing city in the U.S right now. I think the TV show's helped a bit, too. But to be honest, all my Starstruck books feature some element of fame and celebrity - a behind-the-scenes look at how it affects personal relationships. I thought Nashville would be a real, gritty setting for Stephanie, a girl with her own demons and secrets, who's just come off a reality TV show and wants to make her mark for her real talents - not just her red hot bikini body. I'm sure we all have that problem, right? (ahem).

2. Describe Stephanie in one word.

3. Describe Travis in one word.

4. Describe Conor in one word.

5. Which was your favorite scene to write in Before He Was a Secret?

Oooh good one! Well there's one scene where they haven't kissed yet and they're at the piano. Stephanie's terrified of playing (for reasons that will become clear!) but Conor is describing how the black and white keys combined tell a story. My heart was pounding writing that because I was building the tension so high... yeah, that's my fave by far. What do you think?

6. If you could have a face to face with one of your characters, who would you choose and why?

Conor, for sure. He's sexy and thoughtful, and has extremely high moral standards I'd love to try and crack with some wickedness! Also I'd love to jam with him. He's a killer songwriter and always puts his whole heart into everything he does. What's sexier than that?!

7. Where do you live?

Funnily enough right now I live in Nashville. I'm not sure if writing this book was the catalyst in that decision but I wanted to move somewhere new and the idea grew on me! I actually wrote this book when I was living in Bali though, so I've been doing some extra fact-checking since I got here! It's such a growing, booming city and I'm loving it so far! I may have to base another book here.

8. Why did you start writing?

Writing is pretty much the only thing I've ever done, both as a career and a passion. I got my book deal with HarperCollins when I was 30, but before that I was always blogging and scribbling stories, and writing for work. I can't remember where it started; probably with reading! It's just always been a part of me. If I'm not writing I'm miserable! I guess you have to follow your heart if it knows what you're supposed to do on this earth, right?

9. Did you write when you were younger?

Yes, all the time! I was the geek who always handed her English homework in the day after it was assigned - I remember scribbling by hand into the night before laptops were invented, with my fountain pen and ink cartridges! Don't talk to me about math though. Ugh. Left brain/right brain thing?

10. If you weren't a writer, what would you be doing right now?

I always wanted to try acting, but I kind of suck at it. I might have been a teacher. I adore little kids!

11. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Career-wise I would say self-publishing the first book in the Starstruck Series. I did a lot of research in how to write and sell a romance and it paid off. It has definitely been a more interesting and valuable experience than having my books published traditionally, so far at least! I say you should always try new things. Always push yourself. We're here to grow and learn and spread our wings.

12. What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?

I want to write a screenplay, move to Nashville permanently and find my perfect leading man in real life! I'm still trying to dream Conor into life. Wish me luck (please!)

Quick Question

a) Favorite food and drink - lasagne and red wine
b) Favorite and least favorite word - gordita (Spanish for fat woman!) and least... the C word. Ugh!!

e) Biggest pet peeve - guys who snore
f) Celebrity crush - David Duchovny
g) What's your guilty pleasure - singing with the guitar
h) Favorite book - The Witches (Roald Dahl)
i) If you could meet any author, who would it be? - Neil Gaiman. I'm a huge fan!

I'm a rocker with the eyes of the world on me. Waiting for my triumph or my downfall... just waiting. Most of my life is in my hands. My destiny? That’s another story. My destiny isn't as debt free.

My band, Phoenix Rising, arrives in Houston to cut a new album. Before we perform our first concert in the city and I choose my groupies of the night, I'm thrust into debauchery. Sleeping with a gorgeous woman twenty years older than me has its perks, especially when her husband orchestrated the encounter and eagerly watches. To me, performing is performing. If a man wants to share his wife, who am I to stop him?

Unfortunately for me, I don't make a clean getaway as I leave the McCall mansion. Georgie, their sixteen-year-old daughter, is in the midst of her own intrigue, sneaking home in the middle of the night after an evening of drugs and sex with her older brother's best friend. In her, I see me. She’s lost and drifting. Her hedonistic parents insist she's old enough to make her own decisions. Instead of time and love, they give her money and things.

I'm a twenty-five-year old international superstar and I know better. I'm cocky and arrogant. I know it so I own it. Somehow, I've always bested the fates. I have all to lose — my reputation, my career, and my freedom. Her mother's jealousy forces my hand and I take Georgie on the tour.

This is our story and our secret relationship and the destruction of my life. You know the adage about secrets? Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead. Wise words from a wise man. If only I had listened. Secrets have a way of revealing themselves in the harshest way.

What a ride!

Inferno is a dark romance that follows Sloane Mason, the lead singer of Phoenix Rising, and Georgie McCall, a sixteen year old girl. This story is very intense and emotional and keeps the reader hooked from the beginning. It has a taboo theme: the relationship between a twenty-five year old man and a sixteen year old girl.

Georgie is a lost girl. She is ignored and neglected by her parents that find it easier to buy her things than to pay attention and spend time with her. She uses sexual favors to obtain drugs from her brother's best friend and to obtain attention. She is a huge fan of Phoenix Rising, especially of Sloane. When she meets him, she falls in love with him.
Sloane is a damaged man that uses sex to forget his past and his mistakes. When he meets Georgie, he is immediately attracted to her but also notices how young she is. After realizing that she is neglected by her parents and the mistakes she is making, Sloane becomes her savior. But can he fight his attraction?

This is the first book written by Kathryn Kelly that I read and now I'm a fan. Her writing style is awesome and she is able to captivate the reader from the beginning. She makes you feel what the characters are feeling and cheer for them. Loved that Inferno not only has Georgie's and Sloane's POVs but also Cassandra's, Georgie's mother. It was fantastic to enter her mind and see how she thinks. That cliffhanger killed me! I can't wait to read the next book!!!

Kathryn Kelly is living her dream and writing books. She's always been an avid reader and still devours books in her spare time. She also enjoys football, socializing, music, eating, and jokes. In her head, she's the ultimate biker babe. In reality, she's an ordinary girl-next-door and a native New Orleanian.

This isn't your usual book trailer. Instead, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite parts of writing Zeroboxer: envisioning and depicting the sport of zeroboxing. How would a combat sport work in the absence of gravity? Check out what these martial artists and fighters have to say about it.
